The 200th LNG cargo arrives at the Adriatic LNG Terminal
Adriatic LNG announces the arrival of the 200th LNG carrier at the terminal, located 15 kilometres off the Veneto coast. From the arrival of the first LNG cargo, the "Dukhan", on August 10 2009, the terminal operated by Adriatic LNG has delivered to the national grid 16 billion cubic metres of gas, thus providing to the Country a diversified, reliable and clean source of energy.
The 200th LNG carrier, “Al Areesh”, left Ras Laffan Port in Qatar on March 23 and arrived at the terminal on April 2 delivering a cargo of about 145.000 cubic metres of LNG equivalent to nearly 90 millions cubic metres of gas that is the annual gas consumption of 60,000 Italian families (similarly to a medium city such as Bergamo or Reggio Emilia). Actually the Adriatic LNG Terminal is the only regasification facility in Italy able to moor and unload LNG carriers of this size, allowing its users to bring the most widely traded cargo sizes in the market worldwide.
The terminal receives an average of about 80 vessels a year from different countries: mainly from Qatar but also from Egypt, Trinidad & Tobago, Equatorial Guinea and Norway. In a gas market like Italy, dependent on foreign imports for over 90% of consumption, the Adriatic LNG Terminal has opened up the Italian market to new supplies of gas from different regions, strengthening the country’s energy security of supply.
Alistair Routledge, Managing Director at Adriatic LNG declared: "We have achieved another milestone that confirms again the key role of our terminal in the Italian energy market. The arrival of 200th LNG carrier marks a notable result achieved through a relentless focus on our core Company values that are safety, ethics, environmental protection and responsibility towards our local community“.
Adriatic LNG represents an example of a significant investment, mainly by foreign capital, made a reality in the Italian market place, employing 125 people: 62 on board the terminal, 17 in the Shore Base at Porto Viro and 46 in the Milan headquarters. Positive effects on the community are also significant. 46 employees come from the Veneto Region (more than half from the Rovigo Province) and 48 Veneto based companies support Adriatic LNG, 19 of which are from the Rovigo area.
